The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has been cancelled due to coronavirus concerns nine days into the event, cutting short the event that was to run thru March 22.  Cancelled concerts include Kane Brown, Cody Johnson, Jon Pardi,  Dierks Bentley, Keith Urban, Chris Stapleton, Brad Paisley, and Luke Bryan.  Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner has issued an emergency health declaration that impacts the Rodeo and other Houston events.  This is the first shutdown of the rodeo since it was cancelled entirely in 1937.

News Update:  Houston stands to lose tens of millions of dollars in economic activity due to the rodeo cancellation, as vendors, tourists and livestock show participants pack up and head home far sooner than expected.

The 2019 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo drew more than 2.5 million attendees and generated a total economic impact of $227 million.

In the interest of public health, the City of Houston and the Houston Health Department have ordered the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ to close. The Rodeo will respectfully and dutifully comply with the City’s order.

The Rodeo is deeply saddened; however, the safety and well-being of our guests and our community is our top priority. Out of precaution, the City has decided that this is the best course of action for our community.

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has been a fabric of this community since 1932. Having to close early is extremely difficult as guests, volunteers, exhibitors, rodeo athletes and entertainers look forward to the 20 days of the Rodeo each year.

We look forward to the 2021 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo to continue to promote agriculture, education, entertainment and Western heritage. We will provide additional information as it becomes available. A ticket refund process is still in the works and will be communicated once it is finalized. Updates will be posted at rodeohouston.com/2020.

The Houston Stock Show and Livestock Exposition began in January of 1931 and the first show was held in April of 1932 at the Democratic Convention Hall. The first entertainer to headline the rodeo concert was Gene Autry in 1942.  The official name of the show was changed to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in 1961.
