ACM Awards Predicitons

The ACM Awards are tonight – and I might be a little too excited in all honesty. So I thought, “What better way to celebrate than to predict the winners and rub it in everyone’s faces when I’m right?” So, here we are.

But before we dive into the nominees and opinions, I’d just like to acknowledge something a little more unique and a lot more serious about this year’s show: The awards ceremony will be taking place in Las Vegas, one of the first large-scale country events since Route 91. Jason Aldean says he and the country will be leaning on each other for support, as they always do. It will completely change the dynamic of the show, and make it more personal than ever before.


Now, let’s talk winners. The categories and my predictions:

Entertainer of the Year: Jason Aldean

Male Vocalist of the Year: I love literally every nominee in this category, so I’m leaving this one open.

Female Vocalist of the Year: Carrie Underwood

Vocal Duo of the Year: I can’t decide between Tim McGraw and Faith Hill (two of my favorites, very classic and established), or Dan + Shay (who just had their best year ever, especially after the release of their newest single Tequila)

Vocal Group of the Year: Little Big Town

Album of the Year: From A Room, Volume 1 by Chris Stapleton

New Male Vocalist of the Year: Kane Brown OR Luke Combs

New Female Vocalist of the Year: Carly Pearce

New Vocal Duo or Group of the Year: High Valley

Video of the Year: Marry Me by Thomas Rhett

Vocal Event of the Year (what even is that?)- What Ifs by Kane Brown and Lauren Alaina

Single Record of the Year: Broken Halos by Chris Stapleton

Song of the Year: Body Like A Back Road by Sam Hunt

I really didn’t think it would be so hard to predict who would win what, but boy, was I wrong. I’m looking forward to seeing the fashion, the performances, seeing how close I could get my predictions, and of course Reba will be hosting! But no matter who comes out on top, this year’s ceremony is going to be amazing.

How accurately can someone who knows NOTHING about country music predict the ACM Awards? We decided to put my boss to the test and find out. In all honesty, I’m pretty impressed. Her guesses aren’t far-fetched, and her commentary was the icing on the cake.

Cat’s Picks for Winners (and the reasons for her picks) are:

Entertainer of the Year: Chris Stapleton- “He’s the one with the beard, right?”

Male Vocalist of the Year: Thomas Rhett

Female Vocalist of the Year: Carrie Underwood

Vocal Duo of the Year: Tim McGraw and Faith Hill- “They’re cool”

Vocal Group of the Year: Little Big Town- “That’s the one with the chick with the big hair so I call them Little Big Hair.”

Album of the Year: From A Room, Volume 1 by Chris Stapleton

New Male Vocalist of the Year: Luke Combs

New Female Vocalist of the Year: Lauren Alaina- “Who’s got the best backstory?”

New Vocal Duo or Group of the Year: Lanco- “I’ve never heard of them but they’ve gotten a lot of nominations so I should probably choose them at some point.”

Video of the Year: It Ain’t My Fault by Brothers Osborne- “My dad sent me one of their videos once, and they’re weird. All of their videos, super weird.”

Vocal Event of the Year: Funny by Glen Campbell and Willie Nelson- “What is a ‘vocal event’? Okay, um, Willie’s cool so I’ll go with him.”

Single Record of the Year: I’ll Name The Dogs by Blake Shelton- “What’s the name of it? All Dogs Go To Heaven?”

Song of the Year: Body Like A Back Road by Sam Hunt- “Oh! I actually know that one!”

This whole process had me cracking up, and I promise it was even funnier in-person.
