Josh Turner : Your Man

Josh Turner : Your Man

Josh Turner’s new album, Your Man, hits stores today (January 24) and continues the magical journey of his 2003 platinum debut, Long Black Train. The title track is currently Number 17 on the Billboard country airplay chart.

The new album covers a range of emotions – from romantic devotion to spiritual intimacy to ethereal silliness – while paying overt allegiance to many of the musical figures who inspired him. Two of his biggest influences, honky-tonker John Anderson and bluegrass pioneer Ralph Stanley, make guest appearances; a Don Williams hit, “Lord Have Mercy On A Country Boy,” gets reworked; and the Coal Miner’s Daughter is even referenced in the title of the inexplicably weird “Loretta Lynn’s Lincoln.” If that weren’t enough, Turner pays tribute to Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Charley Pride and even trucker-ballad specialist Red Sovine. In fact, the last notes Turner sings on the album are an unintentional tribute to a country-gospel master, as the singer recaptures the “way on down” line from the late J.D. Sumner’s performance on an Elvis Presley hit. Josh Turner : Your Man

“Though 2006 has only just begun, it’s not to soon to speculate that Josh Turner’s “Your Man” might turn out to be the best mainstream country album of the year.”
–Livedaily.com

“Josh Turner, he of the authoritative baritone and solemn demeanor, returns with a sophomore effort that lightens the mood considerably from his powerful but humorless debut hit single, “Long Black Train.” Here, the tone is more romance and hillbilly fun, as on the bluegrass-tinged opener “Would You Go With Me,” the too-cool “Loretta Lynn’s Lincoln” and a funky recasting of John Anderson’s “Baby’s Gone Home to Mama.” Turner teams up with fellow traditionalist Anderson himself on the hard-charging “White Noise” (a sure-fire hit, if label honchos have the guts), effectively cameos Ralph Stanley on the good-natured “Me and God,” then conjures Tony Joe White on the swampy “Way Down South.” Throw in ace ballads like “Angels Fall Sometimes” and the smoky “No Rush,” and Turner totally delivers on his early promise.”
–Ray Wadell, Billboard Magazine
