Tom Van Schaik - drums Robert Earl Keen brought Texas to the Sunset Strip for a special performance at the Key Club in West Hollywood. The capacity crowd enjoyed hot tunes and cold beer as cowboy hats and University of Texas / Texas A&M apparel filled the room.



















Ranking among the strongest of his 11-album career, What I Really Mean now is cause for celebration. Known to laymen for winking party tunes and penning hits for Dixie Chicks, Lyle Lovett and George Strait, Keen's latest features strong writing, performances and guests, including country legend Ray Price and ace banjo-picker Danny Barnes of the Bad Livers.

Instant winners include the twangy, straightforward "For Love," the plaintive rear-view of "The Wild Ones," and the lonesome postcard of the title track. Keen's sense of the absurd remains intact on "The Great Hank" as well as the tejano-flavored waltz of "A Border Tragedy." But the album's highlight might be "Broken End Of Love," which turns a bitter breakup into a passionate ' and danceable ' kiss-off in 4/4 time.
