throwback thursday

It’s one of the best days of the week: Thursday! Which means not only are we one step closer to the weekend, but it’s also the perfect time to reminisce on some of country music’s most timeless hits!

Unlike milk, music has no expiration date (insert laughter here), but that doesn’t mean that sometimes we don’t all need a reminder of some of our favorite past songs, whether they be from 5 years ago or 50. Let’s start Throwback Thursday off right!

Friends in Low Places by Garth Brooks

This classic is near-impossible to find on streaming services, but Youtube always comes through. Garth Brooks is a legend for obvious reasons, but it’s hard to think of another of his timeless hits that compares to this one. Add this to your party playlist and spice up your drive home!

Jolene by Dolly Parton

A breakup song that’s stayed relevant since its release in 1974 (I know, right?!) and I swear those lyrics never fail to hit ya right in the feels. Dolly herself says out of all of her songs, this is the one other artists chose to cover the most, which is a little surprising considering she also wrote I Will Always Love You, another timeless song. I can totally see why it holds that place though, as I myself think I do the song justice as I belt it out in my car.

Live Like You Were Dying by Tim McGraw

One of my personal all-time favorites, no matter how many times I hear it, it’s never any less moving. This is arguably one of his greatest singles, and if you SOMEHOW haven’t heard it yet, or maybe you just haven’t heard it in a while, click the link above and thank me later.

Achy Breaky Heart by Billy Ray Cyrus

Funny enough, Billy Ray is best friends with another icon on this list, the one and only Dolly Parton, aka, Miley Cyrus’s godmother. Let’s be honest, this one sits on the funnier side of these classics. Billy Ray Cyrus is probably the most popular name in the “One Hit Wonder” category, and while this song holds more of a comical reputation, he definitely earned his place. His next biggest hit? You guessed it: Old Town Road with Lil Nas X.
