George Strait 2006 Tour

George Strait and special guests Tracy Lawrence and Miranda Lambert are heating up America beginning mid-January and hitting 25 cities through June. Kicking off January 12 in Des Moines, Iowa, Strait will, once again, play to large arenas with a center stage configuration allowing him to face all sides of the crowd throughout his shows during the 2006 tour. Joining Strait for the entire run of his tour will be Tracy Lawrence and Miranda Lambert. Lawrence has built one of the most respected careers in recent country history, paving the way with 16 No. 1 singles and widespread recognition. On the concert stage he further proves that he is one of the premiere voices of his generation. Miranda Lambert has been added as an opening act for George Strait's tour in 2006. "I'm so honored that George would take a chance on a new artist like me," said Lambert, who most recently opened shows on Keith Urban's tour. She added, "I've admired him my whole life and, as a singer-songwriter from Texas, it is like winning the lottery."

With over 62 million records sold and a record 51 Number one hits, George Strait is one of the most popular recording artists in history. He consistently sells out arenas during each tour and holds more than 20 attendance records including a single day record of 68,266 for a sold-out house at the Houston Livestock Show.

Throughout his unparalleled 24-year career, Strait has earned 12 Academy of Country Music Awards including 2003's Gene Weed Special Achievement award, 15 Country Music Association Awards, four American Music Awards, and countless trade and industry achievements. Strait holds the career record for CMA nominations with 72, and he is nominated again this year for the CMA's Male Vocalist of the Year honor. He has released 32 albums - all of which have hit gold or platinum status. His latest release Somewhere Down in Texas bowed at the Number One spot on both the Billboard Top 200 and Top Country Albums charts.
